Tell us what needs doing

A photograph and two lines is genuinely enough to start. For a roof, a picture of the ceiling stain and one of the roofline from the ground usually tells us more than a paragraph will. We will come back with what is likely wrong and roughly what it involves before anyone visits.

Please do not climb onto the roof to take the photograph. A picture from the garden is fine, and a roof that is already leaking is not a safe place to be standing.

Useful things to include

• Which part of Nairobi the property is in, and whether it is a house or a flat
• For a roof: mabati, tile or flat, and roughly how old
• Whether it is leaking now, or leaked last season and stopped
• Whether anything stands on the roof, such as a tank or a solar heater
• For joinery: the room, the rough dimensions, and what is there now
• If it is a managed building or a gated estate, any access or works-hours rules

What happens next

We read the enquiry, tell you what we think the problem is, and say whether it needs an inspection before a price can honestly be given. For most roof leaks it does, because a leak can be one perished washer or forty metres of failed ridge and nothing in a photograph separates the two. There is no charge for a written quotation.
