About Nairobi Carpenters
We are a small roofing and carpentry team working across Nairobi. Three tradesmen, the most experienced of whom has spent forty-three years at the bench. That is the whole of the business, and it is the reason the work is done by the people who quoted it rather than by whoever happened to be free that week.
The two halves
Roofing is the urgent half: leaks traced and repaired, roofs replaced in mabati or tile, guttering, fascia and barge boards, flat-roof waterproofing. Carpentry is the older half and the one the name is about: hardwood doors and frames, fitted wardrobes, staircases and balustrades, built-in shelving, panelling, pergolas and decking, and repair work on joinery that is worth saving rather than replacing.
They go together more often than people expect. A leak that has been running for a season has usually damaged the ceiling, the fascia and sometimes the roof timbers, and all three of those are carpentry.
How we quote
- We find the cause before pricing the fix. On a roof leak that means an inspection, because the stain is rarely under the hole.
- We publish market rates on this site wherever an honest one exists, and we say so plainly where none does. Leak repair has no reliable published Kenyan rate, so we will not pretend to one.
- A quotation states what is excluded. Ridge caps, flashings, valley gutters, fascia and making good the ceiling are part of a roof, and a price that leaves them out is not cheaper, it is incomplete.
- If replacing is the better buy than repairing, we say so, and the reverse. Talking someone into a new roof they do not need is a single sale and no referral.
- No charge for a written quotation.
What we are not claiming yet
This page is deliberately short on credentials, because we would rather publish nothing than publish something we cannot show you a document for.
NCA registration is legally required for construction work in Kenya. When our number and class are issued they will appear here and on every quotation. The same goes for insurance cover and for any workmanship guarantee period: they will be stated in writing when they exist, and not before. There is also no photograph gallery on this site yet, because we have not yet assembled one of our own work and we are not going to illustrate it with somebody else's.
Ask the same of anyone else quoting. Ask for the registration number, ask what a guarantee actually covers, and ask what the quotation excludes. On roofing the exclusions are where the money hides.
